Glenmorangie's Private Edition No. 9, Spios (Gaelic for 'spice'), represents a pioneering venture in Scotch whisky maturation. Crafted by Dr. Bill Lumsden, this Highland single malt is entirely matured in hand-selected American ex-rye whiskey casks, a tribute to the golden age of American rye in the early 20th century. Distilled in Scotland's tallest copper pot stills—which reach the height of an adult giraffe to ensure only the lightest, purest vapors ascend—the spirit begins with Glenmorangie's signature elegant, floral, and fruity character. The subsequent years spent in rye casks infuse the whisky with an intriguing, robust complexity, marrying traditional Highland smoothness with vibrant, herbal, and spicy undertones of clove, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
