Named in honor of the main character in Carl Zuckmayer's famous 1925 play 'Der fröhliche Weinberg' (The Merry Vineyard)—which was a tribute to the estate's founder, Carl Gunderloch—the Jean Baptiste Riesling Kabinett is a quintessential expression of Rheinhessen's legendary 'Roter Hang' (Red Slope). The 100% Riesling grapes are harvested from steep vineyards characterized by 250-million-year-old red clay-slate soils. This unique terroir infuses the wine with a distinct iron-like minerality and smoky undertones. Crafted in a 'feinherb' (off-dry) style, the wine is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve its delicate, bright fruit profile of white peach, yellow apple, and citrus, beautifully balanced by a spine of electric acidity.
