Hailing from the steep, sun-drenched slopes of Nackenheim in the Rheinhessen, Gunderloch's Nackenheim Riesling is a masterclass in the expression of the region's unique 'Roter Hang' (Red Slope). This striking landscape, characterized by 250-million-year-old red clay-slate soil, imparts a signature smoky minerality and vibrant energy to the Riesling grape. The estate's history is deeply intertwined with local culture; indeed, the famous German playwright Carl Zuckmayer, a Nackenheim native, immortalized the joyful spirit of the region's wines in his classic play 'Der fröhliche Weinberg'. This village-level Riesling is crafted with minimal intervention, capturing the essence of Nackenheim's terroir with its brilliant tension, ripe stone fruit aromas of peach and apricot, and a precise, saline finish.
