The Hennessy XO 1980s Bottling represents a golden era of Cognac craftsmanship, capturing a snapshot of the house's legendary blending prowess from a bygone decade. Originally created in 1870 by Maurice Hennessy for his close friends, XO (Extra Old) established a new category of aged spirits. This specific bottling from the 1980s showcases the classic Charentais carafe adorned with grapevines. It is composed of a masterfully selected blend of approximately 100 eaux-de-vie, primarily distilled from Ugni Blanc grapes harvested from Cognac's finest crus—including Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies, and Fins Bois. Aged for decades in Limousin oak casks before its bottling in the 1980s, this spirit has developed a profound complexity. Over its years in glass, it has acquired a celebrated 'old bottle flavor,' amplifying its rich notes of rancio, dried figs, dark cocoa, leather, and sweet baking spices.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Founded in 1765 by Irish officer Richard Hennessy in the historic town of Cognac, France, Hennessy has grown to become the world's most celebrated Cognac house. Headquartered on the banks of the Charente River along Rue de la Richonne, the house is renowned for its centuries-old blending heritage, famously guided by eight generations of master blenders from the Fillioux family. Utilizing traditional double-distillation in copper Charentais alembic stills, Hennessy ages its precious eaux-de-vie in French oak casks sourced from the Limousin forest to develop unparalleled complexity and depth. The estate's legendary portfolio is defined by iconic expressions such as the VSOP Privilège, the pioneering XO Cognac—a category first created by Maurice Hennessy in 1870—and the exquisite, ultra-premium Hennessy Paradis.
