Hailing from the dizzyingly steep, terraced cliffs of the Winninger Stolzenberg, this Riesling is a masterclass in the unique terroir of the Terrassenmosel. Unlike the pure Devonian slate found in neighboring sites, the Stolzenberg vineyard features a rare geological anomaly: a high concentration of limestone and dolomite intermingled with slate. This distinct soil composition imparts a singular, chalky minerality and a softer, more expansive structure to the wine. Under the meticulous care of the Heymann-Löwenstein estate, the grapes are harvested by hand from these treacherous slopes. The winemaking process embraces patience and minimal intervention, utilizing spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and prolonged aging on the fine lees in traditional large oak casks. The resulting wine is a profound expression of place, balancing vibrant, crystalline acidity with rich, layered textures and a hauntingly complex finish of flint, wild herbs, and orchard fruit.

Weingut Heymann-Löwenstein blev grundlagt i 1980 af Reinhard Löwenstein og Cornelia Heymann-Löwenstein og ligger i Winningen i Tysklands dramatiske, stejle Terrassenmosel.
