The Winninger Uhlen Laubach Riesling is a profound expression of one of the Mosel's most fascinating geological anomalies. The 'Uhlen' vineyard is a sheer, amphitheater-like cliff face, where the 'Laubach' parcel is distinguished by its unique soil: a mixture of grey slate and fossilized Devonian limestone from an ancient coral reef. This limestone influence is highly unusual in the slate-dominated Mosel, imparting a distinct chalky precision, rich texture, and deep mineral complexity to the wine. Under the pioneering vision of the Heymann-Löwenstein estate, the grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and spend extensive time on the lees in traditional large oak casks.
