The Winninger Uhlen Rothlay Riesling Auslese is a masterpiece born from one of the Mosel's most dramatic and legendary vineyard sites. The Uhlen vineyard is a sheer, amphitheater-like cliff of terraced slate, with the 'Rothlay' parcel distinguished by its striking, iron-rich red slate soils. According to local lore, these steep terraces have been cultivated since Roman times, requiring heroic manual labor to maintain. Heymann-Löwenstein harnesses this extreme terroir to produce an Auslese of extraordinary depth. Made from meticulously hand-selected, botrytis-affected grapes, the wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts in traditional large oak casks. This low-intervention approach preserves the intense, smoky minerality of the red slate, balancing the luscious, honeyed sweetness of the noble rot with a vibrant, electric vein of acidity that defines great Mosel Riesling.
