Founded by Magnus Eunson, a direct descendant of Viking pioneers who worked as a church officer by day and an illicit distiller by night, the distillery sits on high ground overlooking Kirkwall. The unique terroir of Orkney heavily influences this single malt; the islands' fierce winds prevent trees from growing, resulting in peat that is rich in decaying heather. When burned to dry the malted barley, this heather-rich peat imparts a distinctively sweet, floral, and aromatic peat smoke.
