The 'Early Landed' Cognacs of Hine represent one of the most poetic and historically rich traditions in the spirits world. Following distillation in Jarnac, casks of this 1989 Grande Champagne vintage were shipped across the English Channel to age in the damp, cool, and dark cellars of Bristol, England. This unique maritime microclimate, characterized by high humidity and remarkably stable, cool temperatures, dramatically alters the maturation process. Unlike the dry cellars of Cognac where water evaporates faster than alcohol, the damp British cellars allow alcohol to evaporate more rapidly. This slows down the wood extraction and preserves the pristine, delicate fruit and floral characteristics of the Grande Champagne terroir. The resulting spirit, bottled in 2003, is celebrated for its ethereal lightness, orange blossom aromas, and refined elegance, standing as a testament to a centuries-old Anglo-French merchant tradition.
🍾 Om vinhuset / producenten
Established in 1763 and later named in 1817 by Englishman Thomas Hine, Maison Hine is an esteemed Cognac house situated along the banks of the Charente River in Jarnac, France. Holding a distinguished Royal Warrant from Queen Elizabeth II since 1962, the house is celebrated for its artisanal philosophy and dedicated focus on the premier terroirs of Grande and Petite Champagne. Hine is uniquely renowned for its mastery of single-vintage cognacs, including both classic Jarnac-aged releases and rare Early Landed casks matured in the damp, cool cellars of the United Kingdom. Emphasizing elegance, delicate floral aromatics, and minimal oak influence, the maison produces legendary expressions such as Antique XO Premier Cru, Triomphe, and single-harvest Bonneuil vintages.
