✨ Technical Specifications
The Cuvée Jehan de Massol is one of the historic red cuvées of the Hospices de Beaune, originating from the prestigious Pommard Premier Cru appellation. Jehan de Massol, a canon of the collegiate church of Notre-Dame de Beaune, bequeathed his vineyard holdings to the Hospices in 1669. This cuvée is crafted from exceptional parcels, notably within the renowned Les Épenots climat. The terroir here is characterized by iron-rich clay-limestone soils, which impart the classic Pommard structure, power, and deep color. The wine showcases intense aromas of dark cherries, leather, and wild spices, backed by robust, velvety tannins, representing a magnificent marriage of Burgundian history and muscular elegance.
🍾 About the Producer
Founded in 1443 by Nicolas Rolin, Chancellor to the Duke of Burgundy, and his wife Guigone de Salins, the Hospices de Beaune was established as a charitable hospital supported by donations of prime vineyard parcels. Today, the historic estate encompasses over 60 hectares of exceptionally situated Premier and Grand Cru vineyards across Burgundy's Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. Revered worldwide for its historic charity wine auction held every November since 1859, the domaine employs meticulous, organic viticultural techniques to highlight the uncompromised terroir of each plot. Its celebrated portfolio consists of distinguished Pinot Noir and Chardonnay cuvées, each named in honor of prominent historical benefactors such as Cuvée Nicolas Rolin and Cuvée Charlotte Dumay.
