β¨ Technical Specifications
Hugel's Pinot Noir represents a beautiful connection to Alsace's medieval past, a time when red wines actually dominated the region's landscape. Sourced from the clay-limestone soils surrounding the historic village of Riquewihr, this wine highlights the elegant, cool-climate expression of the noble Burgundian grape in Alsace. Famille Hugel crafts this red with a focus on purity and vibrant fruit, utilizing traditional large oak casks (foudres) in their historic cellars to allow the wine to breathe without imparting overpowering oak flavors. The result is a classic, terroir-driven Pinot Noir that balances bright red berry notes with a delicate, savory earthiness.
πΎ About the Producer
Established in 1639 in the picturesque medieval village of Riquewihr, Famille Hugel is one of the most venerable and celebrated wine producers in Alsace, France. Managed continuously by more than a dozen generations of the Hugel family, the estate combines historic family vineyards with carefully sourced fruit to champion the diverse terroirs of the region. Hugel was instrumental in establishing the official regulations for Alsace's revered late-harvest categories, Vendanges Tardives and SΓ©lection de Grains Nobles. Renowned globally for their purity, elegance, and ageability, the winery crafts benchmark dry and sweet expressions of noble Alsace varieties, particularly Riesling, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Gris, vinified traditionally in century-old oak foudres.
