Part of Anselme Selosse's legendary single-vineyard (lieu-dit) series, 'Sous le Mont' is a masterclass in terroir-driven Champagne. Sourced from a historic, steep, east-facing parcel in the premier cru village of Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, this Blanc de Noirs is defined by its unique soil, which is rich in calcium carbonate and magnesium. This distinct geological profile imparts a fascinating, savory, and almost salty mineral character to the Pinot Noir, steering it away from simple red-fruit heaviness toward notes of bitter orange, exotic spices, and toasted nuts. Crafted using Selosse's signature Burgundian approach, the wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts in oak casks and aged using a perpetual reserve (solera) system, resulting in an incredibly complex, oxidative, and deeply intellectual Champagne of singular character.
🍾 wine.about_producer
Founded in 1949 in the Grand Cru village of Avize, Champagne Jacques Selosse rose to legendary status under the visionary leadership of Anselme Selosse, who took over the estate in 1974. Applying Burgundian winemaking philosophies to the Côte des Blancs, Anselme pioneered low yields, organic viticulture, and fermentation in oak casks, fundamentally transforming modern Champagne production. The estate is celebrated for its highly individualistic, terroir-driven cuvées, including the solera-aged Substance and the acclaimed Lieux-dits series, which showcase an unparalleled depth, oxidative complexity, and vinous character.
