The Hattenheimer Pfaffenberg is a legendary monopole vineyard situated directly on the banks of the Rhine River in the Rheingau. Its name, meaning 'priests' hill,' points to its rich monastic heritage, having been cultivated for centuries and historically linked to the Cistercian monks of Kloster Eberbach. Weingut Künstler took over the stewardship of this historic site, continuing its legacy of producing world-class wines. The terroir is defined by deep loess, clay, and river gravel soils that retain warmth and provide excellent water management, resulting in Rieslings of immense power, structure, and refined minerality. As a traditional Spätlese, this wine beautifully balances luscious residual sweetness with a vibrant, electric acidity, showcasing classic notes of ripe peach, apricot, honeyed citrus, and a distinct stony undertone that evolves into complex petrol and beeswax notes with age.

Re-established in 1965 by Franz Künstler in Hochheim am Main, Weingut Künstler carries forward a family winemaking heritage dating back to 1648 in Moravia. Today, under the stewardship of Gunter Künstler, who took over in 1992, the estate has risen to become one of the Rheingau's most celebrated producers and a prominent member of the VDP. The winery is renowned for its meticulous management of legendary Erste and Grosse Lage vineyards, such as Hochheimer Hölle and Kirchenstück. Utilizing traditional large oak casks alongside modern stainless steel, Künstler crafts exceptionally precise, mineral-driven Rieslings and elegant Spätburgunders that beautifully express the unique clay-loess and limestone terroirs near the Main river.
