The Hochheimer Hölle vineyard, despite its name evoking 'hell' in modern German, actually derives its name from the Middle High German word 'Halde,' meaning a steep slope. Located near the confluence of the Main and Rhine rivers, this historic site benefits from a unique microclimate where rising autumn mists encourage the development of Botrytis cinerea (noble rot). Weingut Künstler was established in Hochheim am Main in 1965 by Franz Künstler, reviving a long-standing family winemaking tradition that originated in South Moravia before World War II.
