✨ Technical Specifications
Released in 2002 to celebrate the rich heritage of the Lagavulin distillery on the rugged south coast of Islay, this legendary 25-year-old single malt is a monument to patient maturation. Distilled in Lagavulin's signature pear-shaped stills and aged for a quarter of a century in seasoned oak casks, this expression represents a perfect harmony between the distillery's intense, maritime peat smoke and the deep, rich, dried-fruit sweetness of long-term sherry cask aging. The damp, salty sea breezes of Lagavulin Bay have gently breathed through the warehouse walls over decades, infusing the spirit with a distinct coastal brine and complex layers of lapsang souchong tea, dark cocoa, and old leather.
🍾 About the Producer
Officially established in 1816 by John Johnston, Lagavulin is situated on the windswept southern coast of the Isle of Islay, Scotland, overlooking the dramatic ruins of Dunyvaig Castle. Today owned by Diageo, the historic distillery is celebrated for its uncompromising dedication to traditional methods, utilising heavily peated malt and remarkably slow distillation in distinctive pear-shaped pot stills. This meticulous process yields an intensely rich, oily, and complex spirit that embodies the quintessential maritime character of southern Islay. Renowned for balancing ferocious peat smoke, brine, and medicinal notes with deep dried-fruit sweetness, Lagavulin achieves its definitive expression in its legendary 16 Year Old single malt.
