✨ Technical Specifications
The Lagavulin Distillers Edition represents an exquisite marriage of Islay's rugged, peat-smoked character with the luscious sweetness of Spanish fortified wine casks. Distilled in 1999 and bottled in 2015 under batch lgv.4/504, this expression undergoes a meticulous double maturation process. After spending its primary years maturing in traditional oak casks, the whisky is finished in casks that previously held sweet, rich Pedro Xim nez sherry. This finishing process beautifully tempers Lagavulin's legendary medicinal smoke, iodine, and intense coastal peat with deep, velvety layers of sun-dried raisins, dates, dark cacao, and warming baking spices. It is a dramatic sensory journey that captures both the wild, wind-swept shores of Lagavulin Bay and the historic, sun-drenched bodegas of Jerez.
🍾 About the Producer
Officially established in 1816 by John Johnston, Lagavulin is situated on the windswept southern coast of the Isle of Islay, Scotland, overlooking the dramatic ruins of Dunyvaig Castle. Today owned by Diageo, the historic distillery is celebrated for its uncompromising dedication to traditional methods, utilising heavily peated malt and remarkably slow distillation in distinctive pear-shaped pot stills. This meticulous process yields an intensely rich, oily, and complex spirit that embodies the quintessential maritime character of southern Islay. Renowned for balancing ferocious peat smoke, brine, and medicinal notes with deep dried-fruit sweetness, Lagavulin achieves its definitive expression in its legendary 16 Year Old single malt.
