✨ Technical Specifications
The Lagavulin Distillers Edition is a masterclass in the art of double maturation, representing a harmonious marriage between Islay's rugged, peat-soaked coast and the sun-drenched sweetness of Andalusian sherry. Distilled in 2003 and bottled in 2019 as Batch lgv.4/508, this expression undergoes a primary maturation in traditional oak casks before being finished in hand-selected Pedro Ximénez sherry wood. This secondary aging imparts a luscious, dark fruit sweetness that beautifully tempers Lagavulin's legendary medicinal smoke, maritime brine, and intense peat. The distillery's exceptionally slow distillation process—the longest of any Islay malt—allows the spirit to develop its signature oily texture and deep complexity, capturing the wild, wind-swept spirit of Lagavulin Bay.
🍾 About the Producer
Officially established in 1816 by John Johnston, Lagavulin is situated on the windswept southern coast of the Isle of Islay, Scotland, overlooking the dramatic ruins of Dunyvaig Castle. Today owned by Diageo, the historic distillery is celebrated for its uncompromising dedication to traditional methods, utilising heavily peated malt and remarkably slow distillation in distinctive pear-shaped pot stills. This meticulous process yields an intensely rich, oily, and complex spirit that embodies the quintessential maritime character of southern Islay. Renowned for balancing ferocious peat smoke, brine, and medicinal notes with deep dried-fruit sweetness, Lagavulin achieves its definitive expression in its legendary 16 Year Old single malt.
