✨ Technical Specifications

The Lagavulin Distillers Edition represents a masterful marriage of intense Islay peat smoke and the luscious sweetness of Spanish sherry. Originally founded in 1816 along the rocky shores of Lagavulin Bay, the distillery is legendary for its exceptionally slow distillation in pear-shaped copper pot stills, which coaxes out a heavy, oily, and deeply complex spirit. For the Distillers Edition, the classic Lagavulin single malt undergoes a meticulous double-maturation process. After its initial aging in traditional oak casks, the whisky is transferred to casks that previously held sweet, dark Pedro Xim nez (PX) sherry. This bottling, completed in 2009, showcases how the rich, sticky-sweet dried fruit notes of the PX casks elegantly temper and complement Lagavulin's signature maritime brine, medicinal peat, and campfire smoke, creating a beautifully balanced, warming, and multi-layered dram.

🍾 About the Producer

Officially established in 1816 by John Johnston, Lagavulin is situated on the windswept southern coast of the Isle of Islay, Scotland, overlooking the dramatic ruins of Dunyvaig Castle. Today owned by Diageo, the historic distillery is celebrated for its uncompromising dedication to traditional methods, utilising heavily peated malt and remarkably slow distillation in distinctive pear-shaped pot stills. This meticulous process yields an intensely rich, oily, and complex spirit that embodies the quintessential maritime character of southern Islay. Renowned for balancing ferocious peat smoke, brine, and medicinal notes with deep dried-fruit sweetness, Lagavulin achieves its definitive expression in its legendary 16 Year Old single malt.
