✨ Technical Specifications
Lagavulin's Distillers Edition represents a masterful marriage of intense Islay peat smoke and the luscious sweetness of Spanish fortified wine casks. Distilled in 2001 and bottled in 2017 under batch Igv.5/506, this expression undergoes a double-maturation process, finishing its aging journey in specially selected Pedro Ximenez sherry casks. This treatment tempers Lagavulin's legendary maritime brine, iodine, and heavy peat smoke with deep, velvety layers of sun-dried raisins, dates, and sweet spices. The distillery itself, nestled on the rocky shores of Lagavulin Bay since 1816, is famous for its exceptionally slow distillation in pear-shaped stills, which coaxes out a rich, oily, and deeply complex spirit that has captivated whisky lovers for generations.
🍾 About the Producer
Officially established in 1816 by John Johnston, Lagavulin is situated on the windswept southern coast of the Isle of Islay, Scotland, overlooking the dramatic ruins of Dunyvaig Castle. Today owned by Diageo, the historic distillery is celebrated for its uncompromising dedication to traditional methods, utilising heavily peated malt and remarkably slow distillation in distinctive pear-shaped pot stills. This meticulous process yields an intensely rich, oily, and complex spirit that embodies the quintessential maritime character of southern Islay. Renowned for balancing ferocious peat smoke, brine, and medicinal notes with deep dried-fruit sweetness, Lagavulin achieves its definitive expression in its legendary 16 Year Old single malt.
