✨ Technical Specifications

Lagavulin's Distillers Edition represents a masterful marriage of Islay's rugged, peat-soaked coastal character with the luscious sweetness of Andalusian sherry. First distilled in 1991 and bottled in 2007 under batch number lgv 4/495, this expression undergoes a secondary maturation in specially selected Pedro XimΓ©nez sherry casks. The intense, medicinal peat smoke and maritime brine characteristic of Lagavulin's slow distillation in pear-shaped stills are beautifully rounded by the dark fruit, cacao, and molasses notes imparted by the PX wood. According to local lore, the distillery's location at Lagavulin Bay has been a site of distilling since at least the mid-18th century, drawing on the pure, peat-filtered waters of the Solan Lochs. This double-matured expression bridges the gap between the wild, wind-swept Scottish coast and the sun-drenched bodegas of Spain.

🍾 About the Producer

Officially established in 1816 by John Johnston, Lagavulin is situated on the windswept southern coast of the Isle of Islay, Scotland, overlooking the dramatic ruins of Dunyvaig Castle. Today owned by Diageo, the historic distillery is celebrated for its uncompromising dedication to traditional methods, utilising heavily peated malt and remarkably slow distillation in distinctive pear-shaped pot stills. This meticulous process yields an intensely rich, oily, and complex spirit that embodies the quintessential maritime character of southern Islay. Renowned for balancing ferocious peat smoke, brine, and medicinal notes with deep dried-fruit sweetness, Lagavulin achieves its definitive expression in its legendary 16 Year Old single malt.
