✨ Technical Specifications
The Lagavulin Distillers Edition represents a masterclass in wood finishing, marrying Islay's rugged maritime peat with the luscious sweetness of Andalusian sherry. Originally distilled in 2006 and bottled in 2021 as batch lgv.4/510, this expression undergoes a double maturation process. After spending its formative years in traditional oak casks, the single malt is transferred to casks that previously held sweet, dark Pedro Ximenez sherry. This secondary aging tempers Lagavulin's fierce, medicinal smoke and coastal brine with rich layers of sun-dried raisins, dates, and dark chocolate. The result is a beautifully complex dram that honors the distillery's heritage on the shores of Lagavulin Bay, where slow distillation in pear-shaped stills has been practiced since 1816.
🍾 About the Producer
Officially established in 1816 by John Johnston, Lagavulin is situated on the windswept southern coast of the Isle of Islay, Scotland, overlooking the dramatic ruins of Dunyvaig Castle. Today owned by Diageo, the historic distillery is celebrated for its uncompromising dedication to traditional methods, utilising heavily peated malt and remarkably slow distillation in distinctive pear-shaped pot stills. This meticulous process yields an intensely rich, oily, and complex spirit that embodies the quintessential maritime character of southern Islay. Renowned for balancing ferocious peat smoke, brine, and medicinal notes with deep dried-fruit sweetness, Lagavulin achieves its definitive expression in its legendary 16 Year Old single malt.
