Matured in sherry-seasoned American oak casks, it marries Lagavulin's legendary maritime peat smoke and coastal brine with the rich, sweet, and spicy influence of sherry wood. The distillery's pear-shaped stills and unusually slow distillation process allow for maximum copper contact, creating a heavy, oily spirit that ages beautifully. Officially established in 1816 by John Johnston, Lagavulin is situated on the windswept southern coast of the Isle of Islay, Scotland, overlooking the dramatic ruins of Dunyvaig Castle.
