β¨ Technical Specifications
Released exclusively for the 2019 FΓ¨is Γle, the Islay Festival of Music and Malt, this exceptional 19-year-old single malt represents a masterclass in wood selection and slow distillation. Matured in sherry-seasoned American oak casks, it marries Lagavulin's legendary maritime peat smoke and coastal brine with the rich, sweet, and spicy influence of sherry wood. The distillery's pear-shaped stills and unusually slow distillation process allow for maximum copper contact, creating a heavy, oily spirit that ages beautifully. This limited bottling captures the festive spirit of Islay, offering a complex nose of dried fruits, campfire smoke, and dark treacle, balanced by a warming, peppery finish. It stands as a testament to the rugged shores of Lagavulin Bay and the centuries of distilling heritage on Islay.
πΎ About the Producer
Officially established in 1816 by John Johnston, Lagavulin is situated on the windswept southern coast of the Isle of Islay, Scotland, overlooking the dramatic ruins of Dunyvaig Castle. Today owned by Diageo, the historic distillery is celebrated for its uncompromising dedication to traditional methods, utilising heavily peated malt and remarkably slow distillation in distinctive pear-shaped pot stills. This meticulous process yields an intensely rich, oily, and complex spirit that embodies the quintessential maritime character of southern Islay. Renowned for balancing ferocious peat smoke, brine, and medicinal notes with deep dried-fruit sweetness, Lagavulin achieves its definitive expression in its legendary 16 Year Old single malt.
