✨ Technical Specifications
The Lagavulin Islay Jazz Festival 2022 is a vibrant and exceptionally lively single malt Scotch whisky, bottled specifically to commemorate the annual musical celebration on the Isle of Islay. Matured for seven years in a combination of refill and ex-bourbon hogsheads, this youthful expression offers a fascinating window into the distillery's raw, coastal character before the wood exerts its deeper, older influences. The result is a dram that crackles with intense peat smoke, fresh maritime sea spray, citrus zest, and a surprising, sweet maltiness. The Islay Jazz Festival, which Lagavulin has proudly supported for decades, brings together world-class musicians and whisky enthusiasts, mirroring the complex, improvisational, and soulful harmony found within this unique bottle.
🍾 About the Producer
Officially established in 1816 by John Johnston, Lagavulin is situated on the windswept southern coast of the Isle of Islay, Scotland, overlooking the dramatic ruins of Dunyvaig Castle. Today owned by Diageo, the historic distillery is celebrated for its uncompromising dedication to traditional methods, utilising heavily peated malt and remarkably slow distillation in distinctive pear-shaped pot stills. This meticulous process yields an intensely rich, oily, and complex spirit that embodies the quintessential maritime character of southern Islay. Renowned for balancing ferocious peat smoke, brine, and medicinal notes with deep dried-fruit sweetness, Lagavulin achieves its definitive expression in its legendary 16 Year Old single malt.
