✨ Technical Specifications
This legendary single cask release represents an extraordinary partnership and a golden era of Islay distilling. 'The Syndicate' is an exclusive association of Islay estates and whisky enthusiasts who, over the decades, managed to secure some of the finest casks directly from the island's distilleries. Distilled in 1979 and matured for three decades in a single oak cask (Cask No. 113) before being bottled in 2009, this ultra-rare expression showcases the majestic transformation of Lagavulin's spirit over time. The distillery's signature slow distillation in pear-shaped stills and coastal warehouse aging on the shores of Lagavulin Bay have softened the intense, youthful peat smoke into an incredibly complex, elegant tapestry. It reveals deep layers of dried dark fruits, old leather, beeswax, maritime brine, and a refined, lingering peat smoke that only thirty years of patient maturation can bestow.
🍾 About the Producer
Officially established in 1816 by John Johnston, Lagavulin is situated on the windswept southern coast of the Isle of Islay, Scotland, overlooking the dramatic ruins of Dunyvaig Castle. Today owned by Diageo, the historic distillery is celebrated for its uncompromising dedication to traditional methods, utilising heavily peated malt and remarkably slow distillation in distinctive pear-shaped pot stills. This meticulous process yields an intensely rich, oily, and complex spirit that embodies the quintessential maritime character of southern Islay. Renowned for balancing ferocious peat smoke, brine, and medicinal notes with deep dried-fruit sweetness, Lagavulin achieves its definitive expression in its legendary 16 Year Old single malt.
