Nestled on the rocky southern coast of the Isle of Islay, Lagavulin's heritage is steeped in Hebridean lore, with records of illicit distilling on the site dating back to the mid-18th century before its official founding in 1816. The signature single malt style is defined by an exceptionally slow distillation process in pear-shaped stills, which coaxes out a heavy, oily spirit. Matured in oak casks along the windswept shores of Lagavulin Bay, the spirit breathes in the maritime elements over many years. Lagavulin blev officielt grundlagt i 1816 af John Johnston og ligger på den vindblæste sydkyst af den skotske ø Islay med udsigt til de dramatiske ruiner af Dunyvaig Castle.
