Crafted to celebrate two centuries of distilling heritage on the rugged south coast of Islay, the Laphroaig Càirdeas 200th Anniversary Edition (bottled in 2015) is a liquid testament to friendship—'Càirdeas' in Scottish Gaelic. This extraordinary single malt was produced using 100% floor-malted barley from Laphroaig's own traditional malting floors, a rare nod to historic practices. Distilled in the distillery's signature small copper pot stills and aged exclusively in first-fill ex-bourbon casks within the legendary, damp Warehouse No. 1 on the Atlantic shoreline, it embodies the quintessential Islay character. The result is a powerful, un-chillfiltered dram bursting with medicinal peat smoke, iodine, sea spray, and a contrasting, delicate sweetness of vanilla and soft fruits born from the American oak.

Laphroaig blev grundlagt i 1815 af brødrene Donald og Alexander Johnston på den rå sydkyst af Isle of Islay og regnes i dag for et af Skotlands mest ikoniske og karakterfulde single malt-destillerier. Destilleriet er berømt for sin kompromisløse, medicinske og maritime profil og holder de stolte håndværkstraditioner i hævd ved selv at håndstikke lokal Islay-tørv fra Glenmachrie samt drive egne, historiske maltgulve. Kombinationen af koldrøgning og blødt, tørveholdigt vand fra Kilbride Reservoir giver en umiskendelig spiritus, der er rig på noter af tang, jod og markant tørverøg.
