The Càirdeas series—meaning friendship in Gaelic—is an annual limited release crafted to celebrate the Friends of Laphroaig community during the Fèis Ìle festival. The 2022 edition pays homage to the distillery's heritage by maturing entirely in first-fill Maker's Mark bourbon barrels nestled within the historic, damp, and sea-swept Warehouse 1. This coastal warehouse sits directly on the Atlantic shoreline, exposing the casks to constant maritime air and tidal fluctuations. The result is a dramatic expression that marries Laphroaig's signature cold-smoked peat, iodine, and tar with the sweet, creamy vanilla notes of American oak, all underpinned by a distinct briny sea-spray character.
