The Elements series serves as an experimental exploration of the distillation process, with the L 2.0 release specifically focusing on the art of fermentation. By extending the fermentation time to an extraordinary 115 hours—nearly double the standard duration—and utilizing a combination of cloudy and clear worts, the distillers have coaxed out unexpected tropical fruit notes that beautifully contrast Laphroaig's signature heavy peat smoke, cold-smoked bacon, and medicinal iodine. This expression represents a captivating dialogue between modern curiosity and Islay's historic floor malting and coastal maturation heritage.
