Hailing from the wind-swept south coast of Islay, Laphroaig has been crafting its famously polarizing, deeply peated single malt Scotch whisky since 1815. This specific release, drawn from a single hogshead cask (No 800342), showcases the distillery's uncompromising character. Crafted from 100% malted barley dried over fires fueled by hand-cut Islay peat—rich in marine vegetation and heather—the spirit inherits a legendary medicinal, iodine-forward, and saline profile. According to distillery lore, this distinctive medicinal aroma was so pronounced that during American Prohibition, Laphroaig was legally imported as a 'medicinal liquid' because customs officials couldn't believe anyone would drink it for pleasure. Maturation in a hogshead cask, reconstituted from American oak, tempers the fierce peat smoke with delicate notes of vanilla, toasted coconut, and baking spice, resulting in a complex, full-bodied dram that speaks of the wild Atlantic sea spray crashing against the distillery's whitewashed warehouses.

Laphroaig blev grundlagt i 1815 af brødrene Donald og Alexander Johnston på den rå sydkyst af Isle of Islay og regnes i dag for et af Skotlands mest ikoniske og karakterfulde single malt-destillerier. Kombinationen af koldrøgning og blødt, tørveholdigt vand fra Kilbride Reservoir giver en umiskendelig spiritus, der er rig på noter af tang, jod og markant tørverøg.
