Laphroaig, established in 1815 by brothers Donald and Alexander Johnston on the rugged south coast of Islay, is legendary for its uncompromisingly smoky, medicinal, and peat-forward character. 'The Archive Collection' 36-Year-Old represents an extraordinary chapter in the distillery's history, showcasing the profound transformation that occurs over nearly four decades of maturation in Scotland's damp, maritime climate. Brewed using water from the Kilbride Reservoir and partially malted on Laphroaig's historic hand-turned floor maltings, the spirit absorbs the unique, iodine-rich peat smoke from the Glenmachrie peat moss. Over 36 years of resting in oak casks near the salt-sprayed shores of the Atlantic, the aggressive, phenolic peat of its youth mellows into an incredibly complex tapestry of caramelized tropical fruits, roasted nuts, antique leather, and soft, lingering hearth smoke. It is a liquid testament to Islay's wild terroir and centuries of distilling heritage.

Laphroaig blev grundlagt i 1815 af brødrene Donald og Alexander Johnston på den rå sydkyst af Isle of Islay og regnes i dag for et af Skotlands mest ikoniske og karakterfulde single malt-destillerier. Destilleriet er berømt for sin kompromisløse, medicinske og maritime profil og holder de stolte håndværkstraditioner i hævd ved selv at håndstikke lokal Islay-tørv fra Glenmachrie samt drive egne, historiske maltgulve. Kombinationen af koldrøgning og blødt, tørveholdigt vand fra Kilbride Reservoir giver en umiskendelig spiritus, der er rig på noter af tang, jod og markant tørverøg. Destilleriet hører i dag under Suntory Global Spirits og har siden 1994 kunnet pryde sig med et prestigefyldt Royal Warrant som kongelig hofleverandør.
