Hailing from the rugged, wind-swept shores of Islay, Scotland, Laphroaig has been crafting its legendary, peat-smoked single malts since 1815. The Triple Wood expression is a masterclass in wood management and maturation. It begins its journey in ex-bourbon barrels, absorbing sweet vanilla and oak notes, before being transferred to small quarter casks. These smaller vessels increase the wood-to-liquid contact ratio, imparting a rapid, intense woody spice. Finally, the spirit is finished in large European oak Oloroso sherry casks, which layer rich dried fruit, nuttiness, and a subtle sweetness over Laphroaig's signature medicinal peat smoke, seaweed, and brine. Steeped in Islay folklore, this expression represents a harmonious marriage of traditional peat-drying methods and innovative cask finishing.
🍾 wine.about_producer
Established in 1815 by brothers Donald and Alexander Johnston, Laphroaig Distillery is situated on the rugged south coast of the Isle of Islay, Scotland. Celebrated globally for its distinctively bold, peaty, and medicinal character, the distillery remains one of the few that still utilizes traditional floor maltings to dry its barley over local, hand-cut Islay peat. This artisanal heritage, paired with distillation in unique copper pot stills and maturation primarily in first-fill ex-bourbon casks, defines its legendary portfolio, which includes the iconic 10 Year Old, Quarter Cask, and highly coveted aged limited editions.
