Hailing from the prestigious Château des Jacques estate, acquired by Maison Louis Jadot in 1996, the Clos du Grand Carquelin is one of the most celebrated single-vineyard sites in the Moulin-à-Vent appellation. Often referred to as the 'King of Beaujolais,' Moulin-à-Vent produces wines of exceptional structure and longevity. The Clos du Grand Carquelin vineyard is characterized by its shallow, sandy soils resting on a bedrock of pink granite rich in manganese, which naturally limits yields and imparts a profound mineral intensity. Rejecting the standard carbonic maceration of the region, Château des Jacques employs traditional Burgundian vinification methods, including destemming, long maceration, and aging in French oak barrels from Jadot's Cadus cooperage. This results in a deeply concentrated, age-worthy Gamay that bridges the gap between the vibrant fruit of Beaujolais and the savory complexity of fine Côte d'Or Pinot Noir.
