✨ wine.spec_sheet

Nestled in the steep, amphitheater-like slopes of the Saar valley, a tributary of the Mosel, lies the legendary Ockfener Bockstein vineyard. This grand site, renowned since the 19th century when Saar wines commanded prices higher than Bordeaux First Growths, is characterized by its gravelly Devonian slate soils. Here, master winemaker Markus Molitor crafts his monumental Ockfener Bockstein Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel 3*. The three-star designation represents the absolute pinnacle of his rigorous selection process, where only the most perfect, botrytis-affected grapes are painstakingly harvested by hand. Fermented slowly with indigenous yeasts in traditional large oak Fuder casks, this wine is a masterclass in tension, beautifully marrying the intense, honeyed concentration of noble rot with the trademark crystalline, electric acidity and smoky minerality unique to the cool-climate Saar terroir.

🍾 wine.about_producer

Taking over his family's estate in 1984 at just twenty years old, Markus Molitor set out to restore the Mosel region's historic prestige through uncompromising quality and traditional craftsmanship. Based at the historic Haus Klosterberg in Bernkastel-Kues, the winery meticulously farms steep, slate-rich vineyards across the Mosel and Saar, utilizing extremely late hand-harvesting and spontaneous fermentation in neutral oak Fuder casks. Molitor is globally renowned for his precise, mineral-driven Rieslings—distinguished by white, green, and gold capsules indicating dryness levels—as well as his structured, elegant Spätburgunder. This obsessive dedication to terroir has earned the estate numerous perfect 100-point scores, cementing its status as an icon of German winemaking.
