✨ wine.spec_sheet

Markus Molitor took over his family domain in 1984 with an uncompromising ambition to restore Mosel Riesling to its historic late-19th-century glory when these wines commanded higher prices than First Growth Bordeaux. The Saarburger Rausch vineyard, situated on the steep, wind-swept slopes of the Saar river valley, is famous for its weathered Devonian slate soils with a high iron content, which impart a distinctive smoky minerality and laser-like acidity. This Auslese is crafted from 100% Riesling, meticulously hand-harvested in multiple passes to select only the finest botrytized and highly ripe grapes. Fermented naturally with wild yeasts in traditional large oak casks, the wine beautifully captures the cooler Saar microclimate, balancing rich concentration with an ethereal, weightless elegance.

Taking over his family's estate in 1984 at just twenty years old, Markus Molitor set out to restore the Mosel region's historic prestige through uncompromising quality and traditional craftsmanship. Based at the historic Haus Klosterberg in Bernkastel-Kues, the winery meticulously farms steep, slate-rich vineyards across the Mosel and Saar, utilizing extremely late hand-harvesting and spontaneous fermentation in neutral oak Fuder casks. Molitor is globally renowned for his precise, mineral-driven Rieslings—distinguished by white, green, and gold capsules indicating dryness levels—as well as his structured, elegant Spätburgunder. This obsessive dedication to terroir has earned the estate numerous perfect 100-point scores, cementing its status as an icon of German winemaking.
