Founded in 1970 by Enrique Forner, Marqués de Cáceres revolutionized the Rioja region by introducing modern Bordeaux winemaking techniques under the guidance of the legendary enologist Émile Peynaud. Shifting away from the dominant use of old American oak, Forner championed French oak barrels and a focus on fruit purity alongside structural elegance. The Gran Reserva represents the pinnacle of this philosophy, sourced from old vines in the premium clay-limestone soils of Rioja Alta. Primarily composed of Tempranillo with small percentages of Graciano and Mazuelo, this wine undergoes a rigorous aging process of at least two years in French oak followed by several years of refinement in the bottle. It beautifully marries the traditional complexity of dried fruits, leather, and sweet spice with a vibrant, modern core of dark cherry and refined tannins.

Marqués de Cáceres blev grundlagt i 1970 af Enrique Forner i Cenicero i Rioja Alta-delregionen og revolutionerede spansk vinfremstilling ved at forene århundreders Rioja-tradition med moderne Bordeaux-teknikker under vejledning af den legendariske ønolog Émile Peynaud. I dag ledes det familiedrevne vinhus af Enriques datter, Cristina Forner, som viderefører engagementet i terroir-drevet vinavl og elegant lagring på franske egetræsfade, samtidig med at huset har udvidet aktiviteterne ud over Rioja til prestigefyldte regioner som Rías Baixas og Rueda. Bodegaen er internationalt anerkendt for sine upåklageligt afbalancerede Crianza-, Reserva- og Gran Reserva-cuvéer, moderne prestigeaftapninger som Gaudium og MC samt nuancerede, fadgærede hvidvine som Antea.
