✨ Technical Specifications
Established in 1970 by Enrique Forner, Marqués de Cáceres revolutionized the Rioja region by marrying Spanish heritage with progressive Bordeaux winemaking techniques. Having spent years in exile in France managing prestigious estates in the Médoc, Forner returned to Spain and enlisted the help of legendary French enologist Émile Peynaud. Together, they challenged the traditional Rioja status quo of prolonged aging in old, oxidative American oak, introducing temperature-controlled stainless steel fermenters and a preference for French oak barrels. The estate's classic red wines are crafted predominantly from Tempranillo grown in the clay-limestone soils of Rioja Alta, where the Atlantic climate yields grapes with vibrant acidity and elegant structure. Complemented by small percentages of Garnacha and Graciano, this red wine style is celebrated for its bright red fruit character, refined tannins, and subtle spicy complexity, representing a pivotal bridge between historical Spanish tradition and modern refinement.
🍾 About the Producer
Founded in 1970 by Enrique Forner in Cenicero within the Rioja Alta subregion, Marqués de Cáceres revolutionized Spanish winemaking by uniting centuries-old Riojan heritage with modern Bordeaux techniques guided by legendary enologist Émile Peynaud. Today directed by Enrique's daughter Cristina Forner, the family-run estate continues its commitment to terroir-driven viticulture and elegant French oak aging, expanding beyond Rioja into prestigious regions like Rías Baixas and Rueda. The bodega is internationally celebrated for its impeccably balanced Crianza, Reserva, and Gran Reserva cuvées, modern prestige bottlings such as Gaudium and MC, as well as nuanced barrel-fermented whites like Antea.
