Marqués de Riscal, historically famous for pioneering modern Rioja, played an equally revolutionary role in Castilla y León during the 1970s. Working alongside the legendary French enologist Émile Peynaud, they recognized the incredible potential of the region's high-altitude, gravel-rich soils and continental climate. In 1974, they introduced Sauvignon Blanc to the area, a bold move that helped redefine Spanish white wine production. This varietal expression is crafted entirely from Sauvignon Blanc grapes, capturing the vibrant, sun-drenched character of the region. Fermented in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures to preserve its pristine fruit character, the wine offers an aromatic profile of citrus, tropical fruits, and fresh herbs, underpinned by a stony minerality that reflects the region's ancient, stony soils.

Founded in 1858 by Guillermo Hurtado de Am zaga, Herederos del Marqu s de Riscal is one of the oldest and most pioneering wineries in Rioja, located in the historic town of Elciego. Renowned for introducing Bordeaux-style winemaking techniques to Spain, the estate pioneered the use of oak barrel aging in the region and later championed the Rueda DO for white wines. Today, the winery is celebrated for its iconic Frank Gehry-designed City of Wine and its exceptional portfolio, which ranges from traditional, structured Tempranillo-based Rioja Reservas to fresh, aromatic Verdejo and Sauvignon Blanc whites.
