Rooted in Lodi's deep, well-draining sandy loam soils moderated by cooling marine currents from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, this cuvée showcases an unconventional, highly concentrated blend dominated by Petite Sirah alongside Petit Verdot. Grapes are harvested under certified Lodi Rules sustainable viticultural standards, fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel to capture robust primary extraction, and matured for approximately 12 to 16 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels. The resulting wine emphasizes deep pigmentation, dense textural mass, and rich spice integration characteristic of the estate's bold Rhône and Bordeaux-inspired expressions.

Established commercially in 1984 by brothers Michael and David Phillips, Michael David Winery traces its agricultural lineage to 1865, when the Phillips family first homesteaded land in Lodi. Spanning six generations of viticulture, the estate manages several hundred acres of sustainably farmed vineyards certified under the pioneering Lodi Rules program. The region's Mediterranean climate—characterized by warm, sun-drenched days moderated by nocturnal maritime breezes funneling from the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta—combines with deep, fertile sandy loam soils to yield exceptionally ripe, concentrated fruit.
