🍷 Vintage Profile
The 2020 growing season in Marlborough was defined by exceptional, settled conditions with warm, dry weather persisting from late spring through harvest. Moderate yields and cool nighttime temperatures preserved pristine natural acidity while fostering thorough phenolic ripeness and dense, fine-grained tannins across the Southern Valleys. The lack of autumn rainfall minimized disease pressure, creating ideal conditions for organic canopy management and delivering fruit with intense aromatic purity. Widely celebrated as an outstanding vintage, this Pinot Noir is currently in its prime drinking window in 2026, offering layered complexity with capacity to cellar gracefully through 2030.

✨ Technical Specifications
Sourced from BioGro-certified organic vineyard parcels across Marlborough's alluvial river terraces and clay-influenced foothills, this Pinot Noir highlights natural fruit clarity and balanced viticulture. The fruit undergoes gentle destemming followed by temperature-controlled fermentation in small open-top fermenters with indigenous and selected yeasts, utilizing gentle hand plunge regimes. Maturation takes place primarily in seasoned French oak barriques to retain varietal purity, offering a profile accented by red berries, dried herbs, and fine-grained, supple tannins supported by Marlborough's bright maritime acidity.
🍾 About the Producer
Established in 2008 by South Island native Andrew Bailey, Misty Cove Wines emerged with an independent, non-conformist spirit inspired by the rugged grandeur of the Marlborough Sounds. While cultivating a substantial following in export markets, the house rapidly built significant acreage across Marlborough's premier subregions, including the Wairau, Waihopai, and Awatere Valleys. Viticultural practices balance broad regional sustainability with certified organic farming via BioGro across designated estate parcels. In these alluvial river valleys, stony free-draining soils combine with high sunshine hours and cool maritime nights to promote lengthened hang times and focused natural acidity. Chief Winemaker Emmanuel Bolliger leads production with a low-intervention, fruit-driven cellar philosophy. Misty Cove's red wine repertoire is led by expressive Pinot Noir bottlings, including their dedicated Organic Pinot Noir, the single-vineyard Landmark Series, and the select Limited Release 1203 cuvée, characterized by vibrant red-cherry fruit, savoury spice, fine tannins, and pure varietal distinction.
