The 'Pionero' range by Viña Morandé pays tribute to the pioneering spirit of founder Pablo Morandé, who famously redefined Chilean viticulture by venturing into uncharted cool-climate territories. For this Carmenere, the grapes are sourced from the fertile soils of Chile's Central Valley, where warm, sun-drenched days are tempered by cool evening breezes descending from the Andes Mountains. This classic Mediterranean climate allows the late-ripening Carmenere—a historic Bordeaux variety that found its true spiritual home in Chile after disappearing from Europe—to develop its signature velvety tannins and complex aromatic profile. The winemaking emphasizes fresh fruit preservation, utilizing stainless steel fermentation and light oak aging to craft an approachable, expressive wine that captures the vibrant essence of the grape and the valley's diverse terroir.

Viña Morandé was founded in 1996 by visionary winemaker Pablo Morandé, widely celebrated as the viticultural pioneer who introduced commercial vine plantings to the cool, maritime-influenced Casablanca Valley. Now operating under the Morandé Wine Group umbrella with historical headquarters and cellars centered in Pelequén, the estate farms extensively across prime Chilean macro-terroirs ranging from coastal Casablanca and Limarí to the granitic dry-farmed Secano Interior of Maule and Itata. Under the cellar direction of Ricardo Baettig alongside Pablo Morandé, the winery is renowned for innovative technical methods, including early adoption of high-density plantings, concrete eggs, and traditional untoasted foudres.
