Bodegas Muga, nestled in the historic Barrio de la Estacion of Haro in Rioja Alta, represents the pinnacle of traditional Rioja winemaking. Founded in 1932, Muga remains one of the very few estates in Spain to employ an in-house cooperage, ensuring every wooden vat and barrel is crafted to their precise specifications. Their Gran Reserva style is sourced from high-altitude, cool-climate vineyards in the foothills of the Obarenes Mountains, where clay-limestone soils yield grapes of exceptional acidity and structure. The blend is dominated by Tempranillo, supported by Garnacha, Mazuelo, and Graciano. True to ancestral methods, the wine undergoes fermentation in large oak vats, followed by extensive aging in custom oak casks, and is naturally clarified using fresh egg whites before spending several more years maturing in the bottle.
