Hailing from the historic Barrio de la Estación in Haro, Bodegas Muga's Prado Enea Gran Reserva represents the pinnacle of traditional Rioja winemaking. Established in 1932 by Isaac Muga and Aurora Caño, the estate remains one of the few in Spain to employ an in-house cooper to craft and maintain all of their oak vessels. Prado Enea is sourced from the estate's highest-altitude vineyards in the cool foothills of the Montes Obarenes, where clay-limestone soils and a late harvest yield grapes with exceptional acidity and structural elegance. The blend is dominated by Tempranillo, supported by Garnacha, Mazuelo, and Graciano. True to the strict demands of the Gran Reserva classification, this wine undergoes an incredibly patient maturation process: it ferments in large oak vats, ages for at least 36 months in custom-coopered oak barrels, and rests for another 36 months in the bottle before it is deemed ready for release. This meticulous, time-honored approach results in a wine of profound complexity, showcasing notes of dried dark fruits, forest floor, sweet spices, and velvety tannins.
