The Niepoort 1880 Single Vintage Colheita is a legendary monument to the art of wood-aged Port. Sourced from ancient, pre-phylloxera field blends in the rugged Douro Valley, this extraordinary Colheita represents a single harvest from the late 19th century. It was nurtured for well over a century in seasoned oak pipes within the historic, humid lodges of Vila Nova de Gaia. This slow, oxidative slumber allowed the wine to evaporate and concentrate into a dark, viscous nectar of unfathomable complexity. Bottled around the turn of the millennium to celebrate the passage of time, it stands as a liquid time capsule, showcasing the traditional foot-treading in granite lagares and the uncompromising dedication of the Niepoort family to preserving liquid history.

Niepoort blev grundlagt i 1842 af Franciscus Marius van der Niepoort og har siden udviklet sig fra et hæderkronet, familiedrevet portvinshus til en af de mest visionære og indflydelsesrige drivkræfter i portugisisk vinavl. Under ledelse af femte generations ikonoklast, Dirk Niepoort, og hans søn Daniel har huset revolutioneret vinfremstillingen i Douro ved at gå forrest med terroirdrevne, elegante tørre bordvine med lavere alkoholprocenter, sideløbende med deres monumentale hedvine. Druerne høstes fra stejle skiferterrasser i Cima Corgo samt fra granit- og kalkholdige lerjorde i Dão, Bairrada, Vinho Verde og de vulkanske skråninger på Pico. I vinmarkerne prioriteres biodiversitet, ældgamle field blends og biodynamiske principper, mens arbejdet i kælderen er præget af minimal intervention, gæring med hele drueklaser og traditionel trædning med fødderne i granitlagares. Husets anerkendte milepæle spænder fra legendariske, æteriske Colheitas og Vintage Ports til nuancerede, tørre ikoner som Redoma, Batuta, Charme og Quinta de Baixos Gonçalves Faria – alle kendetegnet ved en bemærkelsesværdig mineralsk spændstighed, teksturel finesse og lagringsværdig elegance.
