The legendary Buçaco (or Bussaco) Branco is one of Portugal's most mythical white wines, born from the historic Palace Hotel do Bussaco, a former royal hunting lodge nestled in a sacred forest. Since 1917, these wines were created exclusively for the hotel's elite guests, blending grapes from two distinct and contrasting regions: the elegant, high-altitude Encruzado of the Dão, and the high-acid Bical and Maria Gomes from the clay-limestone soils of Bairrada. Dirk Niepoort, recognizing the monumental status of these wines, partnered with the hotel to help preserve, distribute, and champion this historic treasure to the wider world. Vinified using traditional methods and aged in French oak barrels in the damp, quiet cellars of the palace, the wine is celebrated for its incredible structure, intense minerality, and almost immortal aging capacity, evolving from vibrant citrus and flint into complex notes of beeswax, dried stone fruits, and petrol.

Niepoort blev grundlagt i 1842 af Franciscus Marius van der Niepoort og er et ikonisk, uafhængigt familieejet hus med base i Vila Nova de Gaia og dybe historiske rødder i Portugals Douro-dal. Huset har i over et århundrede været berømt for sine skelsættende Colheita- og Vintage Ports, men gennemgik en dynamisk renæssance under femtegenerations-visionæren Dirk Niepoort, der banede vejen for den moderne æra af uforstærkede Douro-bordvine i absolut topklasse. Med en kompromisløs forkærlighed for gamle vinmarker med field blends, minimal intervention i vinfremstillingen og et unikt terroirudtryk skaber vinhuset hyldede tørre vine som Batuta, Charme og Redoma sideløbende med nyere projekter i Bairrada og Dão. I dag står Niepoort som et globalt beundret pejlemærke for portugisisk vinkunst, der ubesværet forener en tidløs portvinsarv med innovative, elegante og mineralske bordvine.
