Niepoort’s Fabelhaft Tinto is a landmark wine that helped redefine the global perception of Douro table wines. Conceived by the visionary Dirk Niepoort, this wine is celebrated not only for its vibrant contents but also for its whimsical labels, which feature the classic illustrations of German humorist Wilhelm Busch (specifically the raven Hans Huckebein)—a nod to storytelling that changes depending on the country of export (where it is sometimes known as Diálogo or Conversa). Sourced from the steep, schistous slopes of the Cima Corgo subregion, Fabelhaft is a classic Douro blend of Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, and Tinta Amarela. To preserve its youthful energy and terroir-driven minerality, the wine is fermented in stainless steel, with a portion aged in neutral French oak barriques. The result is a beautifully balanced, medium-bodied red that marries fresh dark fruit, balsamic notes, and slatey minerality with remarkably smooth tannins.
