Dirk Niepoort's obsession with Burgundy is legendary, and his 'Projectos' series serves as a creative playground for experimental, limited-run wines. The Projectos Pinot Noir is a fascinating exercise in terroir tension, transplanting Burgundy's finicky noble grape to the rugged, high-altitude schist soils of the Douro (Duriense). To preserve the grape's delicate nature and vibrant acidity against the region's intense sun, the vines are planted in cool, elevated plots. Vinified with traditional low-intervention methods, including partial whole-cluster fermentation and aging in older French oak casks, this rare bottling marries the ethereal, red-berry elegance of Pinot Noir with the distinctive, smoky minerality of Portuguese slate soils.
