Niepoort's Redoma Branco Reserva is a landmark Portuguese white wine that redefined the potential of the Douro Valley's still wines. Sourced from extremely old vineyards—some over 80 years old—perched at high altitudes of 400 to 800 meters, this wine thrives on the region's characteristic mica-schist soils. It is crafted from a traditional field blend of indigenous grape varieties, including Rabigato, Codega do Larinho, Viosinho, and Arinto. Dirk Niepoort's vision was to capture the intense minerality and natural acidity of these high-altitude sites, contrasting the Douro's reputation for heavy, hot wines. The grapes are gently pressed and fermented in French oak casks, where the wine undergoes a long aging period on its fine lees without malolactic fermentation. This meticulous process yields a white wine of incredible structure, complexity, and a salty, mineral-driven finish that mirrors the rugged beauty of the Douro landscape.
