Inspired by the whimsical characters of Lewis Carroll's 'Through the Looking-Glass,' Niepoort's 'Tawny Dee' is the playful, elegant counterpart to its sibling 'Ruby Dum.' This wine showcases a lighter, more approachable style of Tawny Port, crafted from traditional Douro grape varieties including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Roriz. The grapes are sourced from the steep, schistose vineyards of the Cima Corgo subregion. To develop its signature brick-red hue and refined profile, the wine is aged for an average of three to five years in traditional small oak casks (pipes) in the historic, cool cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia. This gentle oxidative aging beautifully balances fresh red fruit flavors with delicate notes of dried fruits and toasted nuts, demonstrating Dirk Niepoort's mastery in creating expressive, balanced blends.
