Niepoort's Vintage Port represents the pinnacle of the house's traditional winemaking philosophy, sourced primarily from low-yielding, centenarian vines (vinhas velhas) in the rugged Cima Corgo subregion of the Douro Valley. A field blend of classic varieties including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Francisca, and Sousão, the grapes are meticulously foot-trodden in traditional granite lagares with 100% stems to maximize structure and complexity. Unlike many houses that favor sheer power, fifth-generation winemaker Dirk Niepoort champions elegance, freshness, and precise balance. After aging for approximately two years in large wooden vats (tonéis) in the historic cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia, the wine is bottled unfiltered, preserving its immense aging potential and pure, dark fruit character. This artisanal approach yields a legendary Port that beautifully marries the wild intensity of the Douro with a refined, intellectual structure.

Niepoort blev grundlagt i 1842 af Franciscus Marius van der Niepoort og er et ikonisk, uafhængigt familieejet hus med base i Vila Nova de Gaia og dybe historiske rødder i Portugals Douro-dal. Huset har i over et århundrede været berømt for sine skelsættende Colheita- og Vintage Ports, men gennemgik en dynamisk renæssance under femtegenerations-visionæren Dirk Niepoort, der banede vejen for den moderne æra af uforstærkede Douro-bordvine i absolut topklasse. Med en kompromisløs forkærlighed for gamle vinmarker med field blends, minimal intervention i vinfremstillingen og et unikt terroirudtryk skaber vinhuset hyldede tørre vine som Batuta, Charme og Redoma sideløbende med nyere projekter i Bairrada og Dão.
