Dirk Niepoort's Voyeur Tinto represents a fascinating, minimalist departure from the traditionally heavy, extraction-focused red wines of the Douro Valley. Born from a desire to strip away the influence of oak and showcase the raw, transparent beauty of high-altitude old vines, Voyeur is crafted using a field blend of both red and white indigenous grape varieties. The grapes are sourced from ancient vineyards in the Douro, where schist soils and high elevations preserve remarkable acidity. In the cellar, the wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation and is aged in traditional clay amphorae (tinajas) for several months. This ancient vessel choice allows for gentle micro-oxygenation without imparting any woody flavors, resulting in a pale, ethereal red wine. The name 'Voyeur' playfully hints at this transparency—a wine that lays bare the soul of the Douro's terroir without any cellar makeup.

Niepoort blev grundlagt i 1842 af Franciscus Marius van der Niepoort og er et ikonisk, uafhængigt familieejet hus med base i Vila Nova de Gaia og dybe historiske rødder i Portugals Douro-dal. Huset har i over et århundrede været berømt for sine skelsættende Colheita- og Vintage Ports, men gennemgik en dynamisk renæssance under femtegenerations-visionæren Dirk Niepoort, der banede vejen for den moderne æra af uforstærkede Douro-bordvine i absolut topklasse. Med en kompromisløs forkærlighed for gamle vinmarker med field blends, minimal intervention i vinfremstillingen og et unikt terroirudtryk skaber vinhuset hyldede tørre vine som Batuta, Charme og Redoma sideløbende med nyere projekter i Bairrada og Dão. I dag står Niepoort som et globalt beundret pejlemærke for portugisisk vinkunst, der ubesværet forener en tidløs portvinsarv med innovative, elegante og mineralske bordvine.
